Everything that a pregnant mum-to-be eats or drinks passes through to her unborn baby and therefore pregnant mums should eat healthy nutritious food, drink lots of clean water and get enough exercise and rest.
When a pregnant woman drinks alcohol, it passes through her blood stream to her unborn baby and because baby’s body is so small, this alcohol is very concentrated and causes serious damage to baby, especially his brain and intellectual development. The risks increase if mum is a heavy drinker or drinks excessively at times like over weekends.
Some studies show that damage can be done in the first few weeks of pregnancy when a woman might not yet know that she is pregnant. So, it’s important that couples plan a pregnancy and that woman wanting to fall pregnant should not drink.
