Symptoms of measles in an infected child include:
- a fever
- runny nose
- hacking cough
- red eyes
Inside the mouth, tiny white spots appear, followed by a sore throat. Three to five days after the onset of symptoms, a mildly itchy rash appears. The rash appears as flat red areas that quickly become raised, beginning around the ears and spreading to the trunk, arms, and legs. The child may experience a high fever (40°C).
