The key thing for the parent or caregiver to do is to 

  • give the baby or child fluids and watch him very carefully to see that he doesn’t get any worse and start showing other danger signs. 
  • If the diarrhoea gets worse or persists for 24 hours, seek immediate medical attention at the clinic or a doctor.
  • Try and replace the fluids that the baby or young child has lost.
  • If the baby is under 6 months breastfeed more often, for longer.
  • If the baby is older than 6 months, breastfeed more often and for longer, as well as give frequent sips of fluids.
