If mother is HIV positive or her status unknown, healthcare workers will test at birth and may re-test at 6 weeks,16 weeks and 6 weeks after mum has stopped breastfeeding and then again at 18 months. It’s important to have these tests done on time and to have the results recorded in baby’s Road to Health Booklet. There are two pages to record important information on HIV in the Road to Health Booklet that help health workers provide the best treatment and support for your baby.  If HIV is a risk, baby may also be put onto a prophylactic (or preventative) dose of ARV medicine to prevent transmission of the HI virus.
