What causes bleeding during sex?

- When you get excited during sex, your vagina becomes lubricated, making it wetter and ready for sex. Many women find that lubrication makes sex more comfortable or enjoyable because it reduces irritation (and sometimes bleeding).
- Sometimes you can experience vaginal dryness. Your vagina does not get wet enough, leading to pain or discomfort or bleeding.
- A lubricant can help. A lubricant is a liquid or gel that you and your partner can apply during sex to make the vulva, vagina, or anal area wetter. Lubricant can also be applied to a man’s penis or a sex toy to make them more slippery. Water-based lubricants are usually inexpensive and easy to find at a pharmacy.
- ⚠️ Bleeding can also be caused by a medical condition, such as an STI (Sexually Transmitted Infection) or vaginal dryness. Please be sure you use condoms for protection, and if the bleeding persists, consult a doctor in person.
